Fabergé’s Imperial Treasure of Love

Faberge’s series of Imperial Eggs encapsulates charm, romance and beauty with its fairy tale tradition. On Easter, the most important holiday for the Russian Orthodox Church, in 1885, Tsar Alexander III enchanted his wife, the Empress Marie Feodorovna, with an unforgettable gift: a jewelled Easter egg intricately crafted to honour 20 years of their espousal. When opened, the Hen Egg revealed a gold yolk, but that wasn’t all. Inside the golden yolk rested a minute diamond replica of the Imperial Crown. Faberge’s first Imperial Egg brought the Empress so much joy, the tradition carried on until 1916, surprising and enchanting nobility and public year after year.
