Christie’s in New York will auction the work of some of European history’s most renowned artists and antiquity's rarest and finest objects this week, including artwork by El Greco, and Gaetano Gandolfi, and a pair of silver-mounted Lafayette-Bolivar pistols.
Taste of Life’s editors have selected 16 of our favorite objects from across the different auction categories that will go under the hammer this week. Some have interesting histories, or highlight a change in the course of history, while others are simply a delight for the eyes.
Classic Week 2016 auctions start on April 12-15, while viewing started last week. Hundreds of precious and extraordinary items are up for auction, including more than 250 old masters paintings.
Christie’s second annual classic week, which is held together by a special themed collection: Revolution, also has the auction house’s signature Exceptional Sale of decorative arts.
Christie’s anticipates grossing between $68.5 million and $106 million for the full suite of sales.
